The Story of the CSS "rebeccapurple" Color
Have you heard the story of Eric Meyer and his daughter? Even if you don't know Eric Meyer's name, I'm sure you've all used the reset.css he prepared.
Eric Meyer's daughter was diagnosed with cancer in recent years. Eric also decided to share this situation on his blog. However, her daughter's condition gradually deteriorated.
And the worst part is, Eric lost his daughter. Our web developer community has found a great way to honor him and show their support.
They presented to the CSS Working Group to add a new color to the color list. They wanted to rename Rebecca's favorite color #663399 and name it beccapurple.
Wanting to make sure that this wouldn't cause any more pain and distress to Eric's family, CSS WG reached out to Eric, who replied:
“A few weeks before she died, Rebecca told us she was a six-year-old big girl and Becca was a baby name. When She was 6 years old, she wanted everyone to call her Rebecca instead of Becca she. And she was 6 years old. She was six years old for at least 12 hours. So it must be Rebecca.”
Eric Meyer
As a result, with Eric Meyer's permission, on June 19, 2014, the #663399 color code was found suitable to be named rebeccapurple.
I am happy to be a part of this community.
